It was an afternoon of fun at the Apple House Fun Day in June with the sun shining, tea flowing and cakes & pastries in abundance. We were grateful to Chris and Polly for doning their pinnies to make sure everyone was fed and watered. At some point during the afternoon, everyone had shown their appreciation by spending a little time washing or drying in the kitchen. A new attraction to the day was the delightful plant stall provided by Sandra & Richard, whose months of nurturing and expert greenfingers in the greenhouse had produced an array of plants and herbs for sale, raising thirty pounds.
With bellies full it was soon time for the annual rounders match to be captained yet again by the fiercest of rivals ex-chairman and ex-secretary, Andrew and Geoff. Embracing the digital age, Amna, stepped up to be our first ‘electronic umpire’ keeping score and time on a smartphone. Geoff’s team won the toss and started the batting. The first hit of the day was caught by Richard much to his surprise and Geoff’s protests. Rounders soon tallied up and despite Geoff’s bandaged leg (for decoration?) his team scored a plausible thirty- points. Andrew’s team started slowly despite advice of “keeping your eye on the ball” but the rounders soon started to rack up. Not wishing to be beaten (again) Geoff resorted to bowling two balls at the same towards the opposing captain. With scores equalled and seconds to spare, Andrew’s team managed to get all last three players home and dry. Team Geoff 30 – Team Andrew 33
